Trick
Explanation
In Kamui (Ezofuji), the player is expected to run up a very long slope in order to reach the entrance to Wawku Shrine. Tuskle Clip is an Interior Clip where Ammy can fall into Tuskle's home placed placed at the top of Ezofuji, skipping the long run.

In NG+
Immediately after entering the Ezofuji map, perform 2 KTs to the left, then fall down into Tuskle's home while using the map to position Ammy. Example of map position

Demonstration: https://youtu.be/VVQ7itn4rvQ?t=6497

In NG
Run forward after entering Ezofuji to get gold dash. Do not use ZR during this trick. Run up the ramp to the the altar, jumping slightly before the top of the ramp. Without moving along the ground, jump on the top right small post, then onto the much taller lit post just next to it. Land in the middle of the post while running forward to activate Slope Storage, jumping at the peak of the height boost. Double jump, then air tackle to just make it over the right wall. Hold back after clearing the wall and drift using the map to position Ammy to fall into Tuskle's home. Example of map position

Legoerofeggos: fixing to mention first person glitch

Trick
Explanation
Lilypad Skip Skip (LSS) is used in NG Any% and NG All Brushes to get into Agata early. Unlike Lilypad Skip, LSS enters Agata through the upper entrance, allowing the use of the Cutscene Skip Brush Adventure in order to bloom Agata, which also skips the previous method of Waka 1 Skip.

Directions
Go into the water section towards Agata and swim into the right corner between the wooden frame and the gray wall before the tunnel begins. You need to swim into the corner with some speed, and you must be in the slow swimming state. Just before reaching the corner, hold back along the wall towards the shore. Now when Ammy reaches the corner and performs a Corner Jump, she should jump out of the water with her legs splayed out. If she jumps out with a somersault, she can't gain enough height to complete the trick.

Immediately perform a wall jump off of the gray wall in order to get an Auto Wall Jump, and hold down the camera change button. Drift Ammy towards the wall while ascending, then air tackle at a sharp angle into the wall just at the top of or above the wooden frame. If Ammy does not reach that high, then the wall jump was not performed fast enough.

Brush as Ammy begins to recoil from the wall. The camera should go into first person at this point. Rotate the camera to face where Tama's house would be, let go of the camera change button, then brush buffer. Rotate the camera back to face Ammy. She should now be facing away from the wall, an effect of the First Person Glitch. At this point, let go of the brush and drift Ammy back into the edge between the wall and the slope. Jump as soon as Ammy lands, and air tackle up the slope. Do this a couple more times, then jump and air tackle onto the flat ground and run to the top entrance to Agata. After this perform the Cutscene Skip Brush Adventure to bloom Agata and finish off the trick.

Trick

Rotate the camera back to face Ammy, let go of the brush, and drift Ammy back into the edge between the wall and the slope. Jump as soon as Ammy lands, and air tackle up the slope. Do this a couple more times, then jump and air tackle onto the flat ground and run to the top entrance to Agata. After this perform the Cutscene Skip Brush Adventure to bloom Agata and finish off the trick.

Unit
Explanation
Godhood is a mechanic where Ammy gets a shield, nullifying all damage and knockback from a single attack. Once the hit is absorbed, Ammy's tier of godhood is reduced. Tiers of godhood are built-up by hitting enemies. Every hit dealt to an enemy earns 5 points of Godhood, with the exception of rosary beads which earn 2 points per hit.. There are 5 tiers of godhood in total, each applying to a certain range of Godhood points. Godhood points are represented internally as a signed 2 Byte integer (range -32,768 to 32,767).

The tiers are as follows:
# Negative Godhood - <50 points - Ammy has no shield and must deal additional hits before returning to Neutral Godhood and then build up to having an actual shield. In-battle, this is represented by a skull and cross-bones icon. This state only results from drowning in water/poison/lava or succumbing to a cursed zone while at neutral godhood. All of these will set Ammy to 0 Godhood if she was at Negative or Neutral to begin with, or to the lowest value of the next lower tier otherwise. Lower Godhood values are not known to be reachable normally in-game, but are also recognized as Negative Godhood.
# Neutral Godhood - >=50, <125 points - Ammy has no shield and no godhood icon. This is the default. If Ammy has Red Godhood and gets hit, she will be set to 50 Godhood points. If she has Neutral Godhood, she won't lose any points from being hit, even if she has more than 50.
# Red Godhood - >=125, <250 points - Ammy has 1 layer of shield, which is lost upon being hit, returning to Neutral Godhood (50 points). As mentioned before, drowning or succumbing to a cursed zone will also lower Ammy to Neutral.
# Yellow Godhood - >=250, <375 points - Ammy has 2 layers of shield.
# Green Godhood - >=375 points - Ammy has 3 layers of shield. She can continue to build Godhood Points above 375. In theory, it's possible to continue building points until they underflow. In practice, the game has a cap set at 30000 points, and hits past this point will cause the points to revert to 30000.

Legoerofeggos: Added Kamui Early Route

Rules
*Must start game from a fresh NG+ file.
*Run must be single segment.
*Only IGT (in game time) is counted for leaderboards.
*For timing, runners usually begin time at the first cutscene and end time when Yami dies.
*These routes are based on the KT glitch and therefore are only possible on PS2, PS3, and Wii versions of the game.

File Setup
A NG+ file is setup after beating the game and choosing to save. In order to optimize menu-ing in the route, the following items are recommended to have at the end of the game:
*At least 1 Karmic Transformer (Preferably all 9)
*All 100 stray beads
*Peace Bell
*At least 52 large exorcism slips (more is always better)
*Gold dusted eighth wonder
*Gold dusted resurrection beads
*Gold dusted exorcism beads
*Gold dust tudra beads. Even though they go away when you you start a ng+ file they will stil be gold dusted when you buy them in ark
*At least 1 SFS (more is better)
*At least 1 vengeance slip (more is better because you will probaly accidentally use one)

All other sell-able items should be sold before completing the game to speed up menu-ing.

In addition, it is recommended to set up a new file after completing the run once, tripping up at any brush learning as often as possible. This will guarantee that all cutscenes are able to be skipped.

You can tell if you got the 1 frame jump if ammy is facing the camera during the first jump. if ammy jumps towards the right then you need to leave and try again. Then you wanna use Sleep Walking to go through the tunnel. When your out of the tunnel use 3 KTs to void out (or 2 KTs and a bonk). If all done correctly you should respawn in the elevator. Demonstration
* Because we dont have cherry bomb. KT up the elevator to the 2nd floor. Then go outside and KT up to the galestorm platform Demonstration
Shinshu Field - Kamui
* Run towards the dome used to get into Kamui and kt up the wall on the right side
* Run to the highest point of the plateau, then kt upwards to begin Kamui Early
* Kt over the invisible wall on the edge of the plateau, then along the side of the plateau until you can go through the walls
* Go under the plateau, then kt back to the dome from underneath to enter Kamui
* Go through the tunnel, then to the right to perform the brush adventure version of Oki Skip
* Go the dojo and get double jump
* Leave, then kt forwards to get oob, falling down into the tunnel to leave Kamui back into Shinshu - Demonstration
* Run directly to Agata, kt to the upper entrance

Agata - Tsuta
* There are two options to do at this point. Optimally, the first method is only a couple seconds faster so it is mostly up to preference
** Method 1: Bloom Agata using the brush adventure, Run out and kt over the Waka trigger, then run to Tsuta Ruins and kt inside - Demonstration
** Method 2: Bloom Agata using the brush adventure while touching the exit loading zone at the same time, exit, reenter, run to Tsuta and kt inside - Demonstration
* Once inside, go to the right ledge and kt up while hugging the wall to get oob, then kt into the triple gate room
* Clear the three devil gates
* Sunrise, mash or turbo to try and skip the camera pan
* Run to the right and power slash the pots from below
* Jump down, then with gold dash jump along the waterfall's path and do a liquid kt, jumping down to the platform by the vine room and enter the vine room
* Restore the cursed patches and get vine
* Leave Tsuta Ruins, jumping over the intro cutscene trigger
** Alternatively, you can use vine to leave faster by kting out of the vine draw while over one of the small islands below. This requires a quick kt, where you jump out of the kt as soon as possible, as this preserves your current speed, allowing Ammy to jump straight to the exit. This is the hardest time to do this in the run, as timing the kt is very difficult
* Run to the right and jump towards the blossom across the water. Vine to it, and quick kt once across the water but before reaching the blossom to preserve your vine speed while heading to Taka Pass. To keep the high speed, you must keep jumping before the golden dash trail comes out behind Ammy

Taka Pass - Galeshrine
* Run forward and kt to the upper plateau, run through the tunnel backwards to fight Waka
* Unequip the String of Beads
* Keep running backwards through the tunnel, then clip out through the rock by jumping and bonking into the upper left part of the rock
* Run back towards the merchants, then do a single kt up to bloom Taka
* Run along the edge of the plateau, then jump off near the highest point towards a vine and vine to it. Quick kt out of the vine, and preserve the speed up to Kusa Village
** You will likely need to lose some speed by running a little, as the slope to Kusa is so steep that it can be impossible to preserve speed up it
* Run and jump through the village to enter, exit, and re-enter Gale Shrine
* Origin Warp (upside down smile emoji)
* Kt up the elevator shaft to the second level, then kt to the galestorm platform and get galestorm
** It loses only a couple seconds to kt up to the 3rd level and then run to the galestorm platform, which also avoids extra kts
* Kt out of the platform to fall down to the bridge area below and . Hug the right wall around the pond and jump to the tunnel entrance to avoid a camera pan. Leave Gale shrine
* Kt up and over the wall to the left and fall oob to respawn at the front of Kusa Village. Leave

Taka Pass - Sasa Sanctuary
* Run down the Kusa slope, then jump down towards the mermaid spring. Vine to the blossom by the wooden tower, then quick kt out and jump towards Sasa Sanctuary
* Run forwards and do a single kt to the higher platform. Kt up and over the right wall to get to the digging game
* Dig! Get Waterspout
* Kt back over the wall to front of Sasa and leave
* Run to City Checkpoint

City Checkpoint
* Run forwards and a bit to the left of Yoichi
* Method 1 (faster): Jump forwards and at the peak of your jump vine to the blossom overhead. Wait until Ammy is very close to the blossom, then quick kt out and jump directly across the river. You'll need to time your double jump well to make it all the way across
* Method 2: Jump forwards and at the peak of your jump vine to the blossom overhead. Quick kt out and jump to the island to the left. When over the island, do a second quick kt to keep your speed and jump to the other side of City Checkpoint.
* Go to Ryoshima Coast

Ryoshima Coast
* Go into the cursed zone to skip a fight
* Do the brush adventure to water the guardian sampling Demonstration
* Bloom Ryoshima
* Jump down and run towards the moon turret. Jump around the side of the moon turret, then jump off the edge of the cliff behind the moon turret and swim towards the Sunken Ship
* [Sunken Ship Clip]
* Leave Sunken Ship
** This was to make it nighttime. There is a time limit now to get to galestorm the Whirlpool Galaxy
* Run towards North Ryoshima. Jump at the edge of the sand to clip into the water above, then swim to the coast
* Use a kt to jump around the Ubume trigger, then kt into North Ryoshima

North Ryoshima Coast
* Run forwards and use an ExL to defeat the Earth Nose
* Kt up to Watcher's Cape, jump around the Blue Cyclops trigger, then draw a star for the Watcher
* Run forwards and galestorm the galaxy 3 times
* Turn and jump across the water to the lower land. Keep going and jump across the next water, then go and summon Orca (it should automatically change to daytime sometime in this step)
* Enter the Dragon Palace

Dragon Palace - Inside the Water Dragon
* Run forward to hit a cutscene, kt oob to the left, fall, then kt forwards into the dragon
* Sleepwalk immediately. Do not stop running, and do not jump unless necessary. Jump to the middle platform, kt on or over this platform, then sleepwalk before landing on the other side
* Keep running without jumping. Jump at the ledge, then sleepwalk before landing again. Keep walking forward into the wall by the water, and waterspout the dragon orb 3 times. Before the cutscene plays, jump and stay in the air until the cutscene plays
* ExL and PS the three waves of Tube Foxes
* Get hit by acid until death, which should respawn you at the front of the water dragon. Reequip string of beads and leave
* Go to Otohime, then leave the Dragon Palace

Oni Island Sequence
* Orca to the right side of Watcher's Cape, then run to Ryoshima Coast
* Run to Ankoku Temple, jump up the left hillside, and run behind to see a cutscene with Rao's ghost
* Drop into the well, and come out the other side in Himiko's Palace. Go inside
* Go into the elevator, kt across the lava, and go kill Evil Rao
* Leave Sei'an, and go to North Ryoshima
* Kt to Watcher's Cape, skip the Blue Cyclops fight again, and enter Oni Island

Oni Island
* Attempt to [Origin Warp]. If it succeeds, sleepwalk and drown in the pool of lava ahead. then Kt towards the thunderstorm statue and restore it Demonstration
* If it fails, run forward and kt oob. Jump around the side of the mountain and restore the statue

Legoerofeggos: /* Wawku Fireburst Crash */

A crash or freeze is some situation in which the game either forcibly closes (often with an error message) or gets frozen and won't respond to any user interaction other than closing the game or resetting the console/computer.

A softlock is some gamestate which can be reached in normal gameplay where you can still interact with the game, but from which you cannot escape or progress without resetting and losing progress. For example, being trapped inside some geometry with no access to loading zones. There are some situations which are effectively softlocks, except they can also be escaped by dying to an enemy or other damage source, though this still loses progress like resetting.

There are a number of crashes or softlocks in Okami that may affect a player, particularly when using certain speedrun strategies. Some of the softlock scenarios can be lockpicked using KT Glitch, but will permanently trap new game files.

Crashes and Freezes
Save Crash
Whenever you exit the Save menu (which can be opened by interacting with Origin Mirrors or by agreeing to save after boss fights), there is a small chance that the game will crash. This happens seemingly at random, regardless of whether you actually save or not. Because of this, runners should avoid ever opening the save menu during runs, being especially careful not to open the save menu after bosses.

Walking While Talking Portrait Unload
If you activate the Walking While Talking glitch, then initiate a dialogue which has a character portrait (e.g. talking to most NPC's), then move too far away from the source of the dialogue, most releases of the game will crash. This does not happen on the Wii version, which will usually substitute the character portrait with some other texture, often the Stray Bead icon. This is believed to be caused by the game freeing the memory associated with the NPC's portrait, but then attempting to access that memory to continue rendering the dialogue, causing some kind of memory-access error.

Canvas Overflow Glitch
If Amaterasu is able to open the Celestial Brush while she has less than 1 full Ink pot, she will have no limit on the amount she can draw in a single stroke. This is normally impossible, as using a brush technique to drain Ammy's ink below 1 pot will simply make her inkless, but many other things can drain her ink without this limitation:
* Cursed Zones
* The curse effect in Kusa Village before defeating the Blue Imp haunting Princess Fuse
* The ink-draining attack of the Tube Foxes
If you use this glitch to continue drawing a single stroke for too long, most releases of the game will eventually crash. This is believed to be caused by an overflow in the data structure used to store the shape of the brush stroke. The game may also crash if you use this glitch to draw a very long stroke which registers as some brush technique, and then release the brush (Demonstration).

ICB Scipted Fight Freeze
If you activate the Invisible Cherry Bomb Glitch, then run into a scripted fight trigger (e.g. the Poltergeist fight in Catcall Tower), the game will freeze on the last scroll transition before the fight begins.

Ryoshima Coast Brush Adventure Crash
The Ryoshima Coast brush adventure to waterspout the guardian sapling can activate a state enabling player control during cutscenes. This occurs when you waterspout the intermediate pool at the same time as the guardian sapling. During that state, certain actions such as blooming the sapling during the cutscene can result in a crash.

Wawku Nechku Crashes
If you perform Wawku Key Skip in order to skip the Scale Room puzzle on floor 1 of Wawku Shrine, then fight Nechku, your game will crash as you exit the Nechku fight arena. You can avoid this by either performing Nechku Skip, or by balancing the scales in the ice ball room prior to doing the key skip. In the latter case, you do not have to move the ice ball or actually obtain the lockjaw key. So long as you fully balance the scales, the game will not crash.

If you perform Nechku Skip and defeat Lechku & Nechku, then go back to Wawku Shrine and defeat Nechku, the game will crash after the dialogue where you show Oki the gold gear.

Wawku Fireburst Crash
If you use first person camera and hold brush after the Great Tengu fight by the blizzard machine, you can draw fireburst on the first possible frame to melt the lever, which can crash the game.<br>
Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOGcpWeOpTY

Title Screen Crash
The game may crash upon clicking the "start a new game" or "continue" options on the title screen (although this does seem to be slightly more frequent with the "start a new game" option).

Softlocks
Pinch Locks
There are a variety of places where Ammy can get stuck between 2 or more pieces of collision, such that she is effectively stuck in places. In such situations, you can still attempt to move or jump, but Ammy will remain stuck in place. In some cases, situations which appear to be a pinch lock can be escaped eventually with sufficiently precise jumps/tackles/tackle bounds, or enough random wiggling.

Examples include:
* During Uppy Thingy, it's possible to slip between the geometry for the scaffolding and the stalagmite (Demonstration).
* North Ryo Early can result in a softlock if you land in a corner to the right of the gate, between the mountain and the fence. There is a piece of geometry where you can be trapped, unable to move.
* While very rare, it is possible to softlock during Nechku Skip by slipping between cracks within the stone door's collision (Demonstration).

Box Locks
There are other places where Ammy can get stuck in collision which surrounds her such that you cannot escape, even though you may be able to move around within those boundaries. Many box locks can be escaped via the KT Glitch if there is no solid ceiling.

Examples include:
* During Dojo Clip if you go too far North, Ammy will get stuck in a collision box behind the door which normally leads to the Dojo lesson room. This room has a ceiling and is inescapable.
* Also during Dojo Clip, if you slightly undershoot, it's possible to land in a collision box underneath the dojo room. This is escapable with KT's by clipping up through the floor.
* During Fireburst Early, if you go too far North, Ammy will get stuck in the restaurant's collision box (do note that this collision box extends to the cooking pot, which is just as inescapable).

Origin Warp Locks
Many Origin Warp locations are out of bounds, such that there is no way to reach solid ground before falling into the void plane. In many cases, these can be escaped via the KT Glitch, but without KT's, Ammy will be stuck in a void loop until she dies. In a few cases, Ammy respawns right onto the void plane without any time to act. In these cases, Ammy will be totally softlocked if she has the String of Beads equipped, as she will be stuck in a void loop forever. Specifically, this occurs in Tsuta Ruins and Wawku Shrine.

Constellation Locks
If you are able to activate a Constellation drawing state, but then somehow cause the camera to move such that the actual constellation is out of view, you will be softlocked. You will be unable to complete the Constellation, even if you draw stars in the right pattern, since the camera must be pointed at the physical constellation for it to work.

This is most likely to happen when performing Early Thunderstorm, where it's possible for Ammy to drown if you do not progress from the Gekigami statue Rejuvenation cutscene to the actual Constellation cutscene fast enough. This respawns the camera with Ammy, back at the front of the dungeon.

This can also happen if you watch a cutscene or start a dialogue after performing Pot Skip inside Tsuta Ruins, and use the resulting Walking While Talking to disrupt the Vine Constellation sequence. If you do accidentally trigger a dialogue after Pot Skip (e.g. by examining a Cursed Patch), you can avoid the softlock by going through a dialogue 1-2 more times to clear out any WWT or Cutscene Storage.

Sasa Sanctuary Elevator after Interior Clip
If you perform Early Sasa Sanctuary and fall into Jamba's room, the elevator will still be on the ground floor, leaving the elevator shaft empty. If you then enter the elevator cutscene trigger from Jamba's room, the elevator will get stuck in a halfway point at the top of the ground floor, with Ammy inside. This has been escaped once with double jump, but is believed to be inescapable with single jump. This softlock can be avoided by falling down the elevator shaft without triggering the elevator cutscene.

Sasa Sanctuary without activating any Mermaid Springs
Early Sasa Sanctuary will also result in a softlock if you perform it in New Game without activating any mermaid springs. The door to the sanctuary is closed without rescuing Chun, and you cannot use the mermaid coin provided by Mr. Bamboo unless you have another location to warp to. This can, of course, be escaped with the KT Glitch, or by dying to Take.

Gale Shrine Origin Warp without KT's or Double Jump
If you perform Gale Shrine Origin Warp, you will be softlocked unless you can perform Galestorm Platform Escape in order to escape from behind the Lockjaw on floor 1. Note that the Lockjaw key obtained from the blue Demon Scroll Chimera Fight will not work on the floor 1 Lockjaw, as keys are tied to the intended lockjaw. Because Galestorm Platform Escape requires double jump or KT's, but they are not technically required to perform the Origin Warp if done via Astral Pouch respawn, this is a softlock. The only escape is dying to either the Chimera or one of the flaming chests.

Boss Fights without required Brush Techniques
Fighting a boss without the required brush power will generally result in a softlock.
* Spider Queen and the Bandit Spiders cannot be damaged without Vine.
** In theory, if you could get out-of-bounds during the fight, the spider bosses will eventually perform an attack where they draw a thread to the ceiling, then slam down on Ammy's position. This attack can follow Ammy out of bounds, at which point the boss will fall to the void plane and die automatically. Unfortunately, there is no known way to get out-of-bounds during these fights without cheats. Origin Warp does not work in fights, since Ammy's respawn point updates even when in mid-air.
* Crimson Helm cannot be damaged without Galestorm or Whirlwind.
* All variants of Orochi cannot be damaged without Waterspout. Furthermore, if you attempt to fight Moon Cave or True Orochi without obtaining Crescent, at the end of the fight, you will be unable to progress the Susano/Nagi QTE at the end. The game will endlessly wait for you to draw it, but will never recognize it.
* Ninetails cannot be damaged without Thunderstorm.

Tsuta Ruins Single Skip Fight Trigger
If you perform Single Skip, but then walk towards the Bud Ogre, you can start the fight without hitting the trigger which normally shows the Bud Ogre's introduction cutscene. If you then walk back into that trigger, the game will softlock after the cutscene with Ammy not responding to any input. This occurs because the game takes away your ability to control Ammy until the Bud Ogre fight starts, but because you've already cleared the fight, there's no fight trigger to clear away that state.

Inferno Tutorial Lock
In Moon Cave, if you use Fireburst to melt the ice block normally melted during the Inferno tutorial, the game will softlock. Issun will tell Ammy to melt the ice block, but you cannot comply because the ice block is already gone. It does not re-appear, and using Inferno (or any other brush techniques) during the tutorial just gives a try-again message from Issun.

ICB Water Dragon Loop
If you perform the Invisible Cherry Bomb Glitch and enter North Ryoshima by any means, you will be stuck in an infinite, inescapable loop of getting eaten by the Water Dragon, unless you have already killed him. There is a single frame after closing Issun's dialogue after getting eaten, during which you can open the brush, but there's no way to use this to escape. Normally, getting eaten damages Ammy, but during this loop, Ammy will never die, making it totally inescapable.

Igloo Turtle without Inferno/Fireburst/Deluge/Thunderbolt
If you hit the trigger for the scripted Igloo Turtle fight in Kamui, but don't have any brush power which can be used to damage it (Inferno, Fireburst, Deluge, or Thunderbolt), you will be stuck in the fight. The only way to escape is to die to the Igloo Turtle. This is a major risk during NG+ Any% runs, which don't obtain any of those brush powers. In such runs, it is necessary to perform Igloo Turtle Skip to avoid this softlock.

Delivering the Prayer Slips to Rao After Talking to Himiko
If you talk to Himiko before delivering the prayer slips to Rao (by way of Fire Tablet Skip), you will be softlocked into her room due to dialogue blocking your exit both ways (Demonstration).

Blooming Kamui During the Kushi Sequence
If you bloom Kamui while the Kushi Sequence is still ongoing (aka before you finish Moon Cave), the screen will remain indefinitely on the tree. The exact causes are unknown, but it's theorized this may have something to do with the game being unable to turn it to daytime, given that the Moon Cave sequence takes place at night. It is also speculated that the same logic would apply towards other saplings, although this has not been tested yet.

Speedrun History
Popprocks (http://twitch.tv/p0ppr0cks) started running NG Any% in August 2020. He first broke the world record on October 30, 2020 with the time 2:16:41 using Sasa Sanctuary Early. Over a period of months, popprocks helped drive NG Any% down to 2:05:34 on 4/10/21 through a combination of gameplay improvement and implementing cutting edge tricks such as HBS, Boulder Skip, and Barrier Skip. Intermittently, popprocks also began running NG AB using the same tricks, as well as NG+2017 Any% where he first adapted several difficult tricks and routes such as Gale Shrine Origin Warp, Catwalk Skip, Ark Early, BKT skips, and Beach Adventure.

PC Controls
Popprocks uses a hybrid of DS4Windows and SteamAPI in order to achieve partial direct input on a DualSense controller. The steps to implement this are as follows. Some adaptation my be necessary to fit your specific controller. The goal of this control scheme is for the majority of your controls to filter through Steam API, which has benefits such as context sensitive binds and situational turbo. However, it is extremely desirable to have certain inputs bypass steam API in order to avoid dead frames during scene transitions. It is useful to direct input jump so that you can perform 1st frame jumps after loading zones or 1st frame after closing the fan menu, as well as to hold jump through brush buffering without losing height. Direct input bark is helpful for BKT, and direct input tackle allows you to tackle the 1st frame after a loading zone, dialogue D Boost, or tackle out of a ground KT frame perfectly. Start button as a direct input allows you to frame perfectly pause buffer, useful for KTs.

1. Install DS4Windows at https://github.com/Ryochan7/DS4Windows/releases . At the time of writing, I am using version 3.0.3.

2. Download my DS4 Windows profile (okami.xml) at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/nkp7voqeweefumv/AABSZNlckUNrSvqjWuCxonJna?dl=0 . Alternatively, you can create your own profile from scratch.

3. My Steam controller config is steam://controllerconfig/587620/2488071715 . If you paste this into your browser, it should open the controller config in steam and ask if you wish to import it. Alternatively, you can create your own profile from scratch.

4. DS4Windows must be open and active BEFORE opening Okami on steam.

5. Open Okami, and accept the alert that controller override software can interfere with API controls.

6. In the in-game Okami keybind menu, set the jump button to Enter, set the talk button to Backspace, set the tackle button to Left Click, and set the fan menu button to Space Bar.

If the setup worked as intended, or if you had to recreate it from scratch, the intended result is that your start, tackle, jump, and talk buttons are direct inputs and that everything else is through Steam API. Your jump button on controller should be inputting Enter, which will jump and will Confirm in the fan menu. Your talk button should be inputting as Backspace, which will bark as well as Decline in fan menu. Your tackle button will input Left Click, which will tackle as well as Draw in the brush menu. Start is direct input for Space Bar (fan menu), which assists with frame perfect pause buffering. The dig button filters through Steam API and can be used to dig, as well as turbo cutscene skip. Other notable binding changes include R2 being fast brush, and up on D-Pad being jump turbo.
NG+ PC Saves
Download the OKAMI file at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/nkp7voqeweefumv/AABSZNlckUNrSvqjWuCxonJna?dl=0 . You can place this in steam > userdata > (steamid) > 587620 > remote > Steam to access these saves. You should rename and back up your existing OKAMI file, to preserve your own saves. File 30 is the NG+ speedrun file. There are numerous other useful practice saves, some of which are modified with Cheat Engine (new game saves with KTs or String of Beads) and should not be used to create speedrun files.

Legoerofeggos:

* Cursed Zones

If you use inner camera and hold brush after the Great Tengu fight by the blizzard machine, you can draw fireburst on the first possible frame to melt the lever, which can crash the game.

Legoerofeggos:

Rules
*Must start game from a fresh NG+ file.
*Run must be single segment.
*Only IGT (in game time) is counted for leaderboards.
**For timers, runners usually begin time at the first cutscene and end time when Yami dies.
*Must be done on the 2017 remastered version. These are the PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch versions.

*1 Steel Fist Sake
*Gold dusted eighth wonder
*Gold dusted resurrection beads
*Gold Dusted Tundra Beads
*No health upgrades
*1 fish feedbag (if doing beginner route)

All other sell-able items should be sold before completing the game to speed up menu-ing.

Route
For the beginner route refer to the bits in italic.

Cave of nagi
Run all the way to the river of heavens. At the headbutting pots section, jump straight onto the platform rather than walking around. <br>
Go right after reaching the river and get Rejuv. Go to the end of the section and get Powerslash. <br>
When running back, keep the left of the red tori’s to skip the first two fights. <br>
Run all the way back to Kamiki and cut down the fruit. <br>

Leaving Kamiki Village
Kamiki village <br>
Talk to the statue of Mushi and Mushi’s mom, then run back up towards Komuso. <br>
Either jump up using Uppy Thingy or run up the slope to get up the platform. Learn Sunrise. <br>

Trick
Explanation
Normally, to enter Yoshpet, one must obtain the Sewaprolo from Tuskle in Ezofuji. This causes the cliff-face in front of the loading zone to Yoshpet to disappear as Ammy approaches, similar to the wall in front of Sasa Sanctuary. It is possible to reach this loading zone without the key item, though this isn't currently useful in any major category. Yoshpet is already skipped via Wawku Early in every category besides Top Dog. In Top Dog, it is necessary to go through Wep'keer and Ezofuji normally to access the Snowball Area for a Stray Bead.

This can, of course, be done easily via the KT Glitch, jumping directly over the cliff-face. NG-wise, a variant discovered by legoerofeggos uses the vine near the Guardian Sapling to get out of bounds and subsequently trigger catapult jump from a ledge there. From then on, it's only a matter of tackle-jumping to the other side of the barrier (demonstration here).

Older Method
Though it's much more difficult, Yoshpet can also be accessed early in NG through the use of Origin Warp.

First, one would warp to the Mermaid Spring in Kamui from any other spring, then jump on the first possible frame, and land within the water surrounding the spring. Move Ammy out of the spring itself (where Ammy's breath meter is removed and reset, so she never drowns), and allow her to drown. She will respawn at Kamui's origin, which is located below and behind the tunnel entrance to Kamui from Shinshu. She will then be launched upward onto the mountainous out-of-bounds collision. It is then a matter of carefully traversing the slippery collision all the way around the Western side of Kamui, up until the passage to Wep'keer. It is barely possible to perform a Sliding Ground Tackle across the path and to the Northern OoB mountains. From there, navigate behind the Yoshpet Entrance and do another Sliding Ground Tackle to get in.

There are many points where one can easily fall into the void, and much of the collision is invisible, so practice would be needed to perform this trick consistently. Moreover, the large amount of OoB movement required means that this only saves about 1-2 minutes compared to getting the Sewaprolo and entering Yoshpet normally.

Trick

Explanation
"Height lock no clip" (HLNC) is a glitched state of physics in which Amaterasu is seemingly stuck at her current height, and can freely travel through any terrain unobstructed. HLNC can be obtained by using Walking While Talking to cancel a cutscene after it sets the appropriate flag(s) to HLNC, thus ending the cutscene before it resolves the game state back to normal. As a result, Amaterasu will keep the HLNC state in the overworld, and can retain it while moving around, passing through loading zones, and even through cutscenes which do not unset the HLNC flag. Amaterasu can use the brush during this state, but cannot enter the fan menu. This state also causes many NPCs to T-pose assertively.

Procedure
The currently known methods of acquiring HLNC occur in Tsuta ruins, Agata forest, and Ezofuji.

In Tsuta ruins, you can store the poison spewing pots cutscene by doing Pot Skip. Use that cutscene to store Issun's text box asking if you are sure you wish to leave Tsuta ruins. Then, enter the vine room and trigger the vine constellation. Cancel the cutscene by closing Issun's dialogue with the left option. You will load into Agata Forest with Height Lock No Clip. This HLNC method renders the vine brush power unobtainable, and thus the game cannot be beaten due to the Ark Spider Queen boss fight. Demonstration: https://youtu.be/zAR6IOG7cys?t=11705

In Agata Forest, you can overlap the cutscene of a cabbage or walnut being delivered to Sleepy, with the cutscene of opening the chest with Rosary Beads. Wait until day transition to unfreeze the cutscene state, then brush to regain full control. You will need to manipulate the cutscene state slightly here in order to regain normal functionality of the talk button, which can be achieved by blooming a cursed patch or by reading the sign near the mermaid spring. During the day time you can talk to Kokari to get a floating text box, talk to him until he cries, then tackle him. This will give you a floating text box that will load you into fishing when it closes. Wait for another day transition so you can regain movement. You may then feed any wildlife in Agata Forest, such as the rabbits near HBS or the rabbits near Madame Fawn. The feeding cutscene will enter Height Lock No Clip, and will be interrupted by loading into fishing. You may then exit out of fishing and load into Agata Forest with HLNC. As covered in the next section, you may need to walk into and out of Tsuta Ruins to regain your shadow, and you may then proceed with HLNC. Original demonstration by Half Blue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_3xO4vZSaU A more streamlined setup with input viewer can be seen at the beginning of this video: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1498542695

Alternatively, you may use the HBS setup to achieve HLNC in Agata Forest. To do this, perform HBS as usual up to the point of blooming the patch, skipping Sleepy's cutscene, and feeding the rabbits. Go to the mermaid spring and speak to the sign, then wait for a day transition to gain control with the textbox still open. Speak to Kokari until he cries, then tackle him. Stay on the text box viewing invisible Amaterasu until yet another day transition, wherein you will gain control once again. Feed animals a second time, and you will enter fishing with HLNC.

In Ezofuji, there is a HLNC involving Yoshpet Early to travel 100YITP and rescue Lika prior to visiting Ezofuji. Upon entering Ezofuji with Lika, you will get a floating text box due to cutscene overlaps. Take this textbox to the top of the mountain and hit the cutscene. Scroll through text until the camera pans at the sky, then either change the day with a brush power, or wait for a day change. Don't skip the day change cutscene. Afterwards, tackle tuskle, then walk to the Wawku Shrine loading zone. Wait for a fake cutscene skip to get back control, then turn around and go down the path to feed a bear. After feeding, you'll be loaded into Wawku Shrine with HLNC, and can turn around and bring it into Ezofuji. Demonstration: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1297561343

Mechanics
Height Lock No Clip negates all collision, and Amaterasu can easily travel through walls, floors, into and out of demon scroll fights, and infinitely into the void. Amaterasu will move much faster with HLNC if you tackle jump prior to travelling, as tackle jump speed is significantly better than walking speed or falling speed. In most areas of the game, walking off the floor will result in Amaterasu entering a falling animation and floating into the void. However, in some areas such as Kamui and Ezofuji, Amaterasu can easily be manipulated to walk on an invisible floor in the void.

Amaterasu's shadow has unusual importance during HLNC. Under normal conditions where her shadow is present, you can jump and land on floors easily by tackle jumping, traveling at will, and air tackling to land back on the floor. However, when Amaterasu's shadow disappears, the mechanics of HLNC will change in troubling ways. When travelling over water, the shadow will disappear and Amaterasu will no longer be able to land on ground. When travelling over snow, Amaterasu's shadow will disappear, and she will get stuck on an invisible floor and be unable to gain or lose any height using the movement strategies that are available. It is generally wise to travel out of bounds in areas with water or snow, to avoid losing your shadow.

If you lose your shadow (such as because you gained HLNC from fishing and you are surrounded by water), you may regain it by travelling through a loading zone. The Tsuta ruins loading zone can be reached after exiting fishing. You can also reach Yoshpet upon entering healed Kamui mainland (after the 3rd tunnel), which may help with getting close to Wep'keer with your shadow.

Changing Height
Despite that Height Lock No Clip is designed to freeze your Y value, there are some methods you can use to both gain and lose height. There is a very slow method to both gain and lose height, which is performed by initiating a tackle while running and turning. If you are moving forward and sharply turn to the left a few frames before tackling, Amaterasu will gain a slight amount of height while winding up the tackle. Conversely, if you are moving forward and turn to the right and initiate a tackle, Amaterasu will lose a small amount of height. When done perfectly, you can change your Y value by about 0.6 per tackle. If Amaterasu is not turning enough when tackling, the Y value will change by even smaller amounts. This method will take hundreds of tackles to gain or lose meaningful height. The most notable example of this is lowering yourself from the first tunnel in Kamui down to the loading zone of the 2nd tunnel, which requires a change of -80 Y value. This takes around 125 perfect tackles, or multiple hundreds of imperfect tackles. This process is likely to take between 15 and 40 minutes depending on how efficient the player's method is. There is no other known method to lose height, but there is a faster method to gain height.

Amaterasu can gain height by jumping and tackling into an upward slope. Upon landing, Amaterasu will snap slightly to the higher slope, and can gain a few units of Y value. Furthermore, Amaterasu can also tackle from behind a slope (out of bounds under the slope), and tackle backwards inbounds onto the slope, which will gain even greater height. Tackling from behind the slope inbounds and landing can gain as many as 8+ Y units per maneuver. Therefore, it is relatively trivial to gain height with HLNC so long as there is a slope you can climb.

Using these movement techniques, it is possible to take a Height Lock No Clip from Agata Forest all the way to the Ark Of Yamato. This strategy requires you to enter and bloom Kamui prior to gaining HLNC, because blooming Kamui will end HLNC as discussed in the next section.

Ending HLNC
While many loading zones and cutscenes do not end HLNC, there are some notable situations which will cancel it. Blooming a guardian sapling will end Height Lock No Clip, which restricts its usefulness in entering cursed areas. For example, it is not helpful to travel from Agata Forest to Cursed Taka Pass; or Agata Forest to Healed Taka Pass to Cursed Ryoshima Coast. While Amaterasu can travel through the cursed areas without restriction, there are no loading zones until you heal the area.

Amaterasu can enter and leave normal encounters at will, but many encounters with loading zone cutscenes will untrigger HLNC. Some examples of fights that end HLNC include Waka 2 and Igloo Turtle.

Entering the Tango Cutscene to the Ark Of Yamato will cancel HLNC, which is beneficial as it's much faster to defeat bosses in the ark with access to the fan menu (exorcism slips).

Many other cutscenes and loading zones will not end HLNC. Some examples of cutscenes which *DO NOT* cancel Height Lock No Clip include entering a major area for the first time (camera pan and issun dialogue), in-game dialogue cutscenes (such as talking to Samickle in Wep'keer), or entering Ark of Yamato through the direct loading zone behind the Tango Cutscene. The intro cutscene to Tsuta ruins will sustain HLNC and teleport you to the ground, and the area trigger with Blockhead will sustain HLNC but not teleport you onto land.

Applications
p0ppr0cks has used HLNC in a segmented New Game Minimum Brushes run, to travel from Agata Forest all the way to the Ark of Yamato. This skips Blizzard, and the requirement to have Fireburst or Inferno to melt the slots. The notable segment using HLNC: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1498542695

While HLNC can be achieved very early in a New Game file, it is difficult to implement in speedruns due to the fact that it is difficult to make significant progress in cursed areas while maintaining HLNC. You could use HLNC to heal Kamui very early on, and could enter Wawku Shrine or regain HLNC and use it to reach Ark. However, you cannot progress in Wawku Shrine without a fire brush power, and you cannot beat bosses in Ark without having necessary brush powers such as Thunderstorm, Galestorm, and Vine.

Furthermore, acquiring HLNC and traversing the world with it can consume a lot of time in a speedrun setting.
