Summary

Spider Queen is the boss of Tsuta Ruins and is part of the boss rush in Ark of Yamato, in the middle of the 4 others. There are also 3 Bandit Spiders, which have essentially the same pattern as Spider Queen. In Tsuta Ruins, you must use Vine on the hooks on her abdomen twice to make her 8 eyes vulnerable. In all other encounters, 3 Vines are required. Because all 8 eyes must be destroyed to defeat her, multi-target attacks like Power Slash and Exorcism Slips are most effective.

Strategy

Tsuta Ruins

Right at the start of the fight, by panning the camera slightly to the left or right, you can connect 2 Vines from the flowers in front of you to any of the hooks on Spider Queen's abdomen. Avoid bringing the brush in front of Spider Queen's face, as this will "absorb" all the ink you've drawn and force you to draw another stroke. Once two Vines are made, Spider Queen will go into a collapsing animation. The moment that the Vine flowers around the arena wilt, her eyes become vulnerable. This is a few frames before they become visible, so you may have to estimate their position to hit them with a Power Slash (PS) as soon as possible.

NG+

Spider Queens eyes can be destroyed with 2 Large Exorcism Slips (ExL).

NG

Depending on your resources and the amount of ink you have, there are a few combinations of attacks which can destroy all the eyes in one cycle, assuming you hit all 8 eyes with each PS:

Ryoshima Coast (Bandit Spider)

For this fight, and all the later ones, you need to use 3 Vines rather than 2 to make it vulnerable. Instead of eyes, the Bandit Spiders have 8 barrels in their abdomen, but it's just an aesthetic difference.

Another difference is that the Bandit Spider arenas have water around the perimeter, and fire burning on the tops of several pillars coming up from that water. These can be used as sources for Waterspout and Inferno. These, as well as Thunderstorm and Blizzard, all do the same amount of damage, so long as your brush stroke covers all 8 barrels/eyes. This requires panning the camera to look down from above, to make sure the barrels/eyes do not obstruct each other. Because of this, it is often easiest to use Waterspout, since the Inferno sources are difficult to get in view along with all 8 targets.

NG+

The Ryo Bandit Spider can be defeated with 3 ExL.

NG

One cycle kill combos:

  • 4 PS
  • 1 Waterspout (WS) (Or other elemental technique) + 1 PS
  • 3 Power Slash 2
  • 2 Power Slash 3
  • 2 ExS + 3 PS
  • 1 ExM + 4 PS

N. Ryoshima Coast (Bandit Spider)

This fight is similar to the Ryo one, except that brush techniques are slightly less effective and Exorcism Slips are slightly more effective.

NG+

The N. Ryo Bandit Spider can be defeated with 3 ExL.

NG

One cycle kill combos:

  • 5 PS
  • 1 WS + 2 PS
  • 4 PS2
  • 3 PS3
  • 1 WS + 1 PS2
  • 2 ExS + 4 PS
  • 1 ExM + 4 PS
  • 1 ExL + 3 PS

Kamui (Bandit Spider)

Similar to the other Bandit Spiders. Brush techniques are about half as effective as with the Ryo one. Slips are slightly more effective than in Ryo, but less effective than in N. Ryo.

NG+

The Kamui Bandit Spider can be defeated with 3 ExL.

NG

One cycle kill combos:

  • 8 PS
  • 2 WS
  • 5 PS2
  • 4 PS3
  • 1 WS + 1 PS2
  • 1 ExS + 7 PS (ExS and PS do exactly the same damage for this fight)
  • 1 ExM + 6 PS
  • 1 ExM + 3 PS3 (ExM and PS3 do exactly the same damage as well)
  • 1 ExL + 5 PS

Ark of Yamato

This fight is similar to the Bandit Spiders, in that 3 Vines are required to make her eyes vulnerable. Compared to Tsuta Ruins, brush techniques are half as effective, but exorcism slips are equally effective.

Unlike the Bandit Spiders, there are no elemental sources, but you may have one of the elemental Divine Instruments to use instead. Unfortunately, elemental techniques are much weaker on this fight specifically, compared to any of the others.

NG+

Ark Spider Queen can be defeated with 2 ExL or 1 ExL + 1 ExM.

NG

One cycle kill combos:

  • 9 PS
  • 6 WS
  • 6 PS2 (Same damages as WS)
  • 5 PS3
  • 1 ExS + 7 PS (ExS does the same damage as 2 PS or 1 PS3)
  • 1 ExM + 5 PS (1 ExM = 4 PS = 2 PS3)
  • 1 ExL + 3 PS3 (1 ExL = 6 PS = 3 PS3)

Statistics

This table shows the max health of each Spider Queen/Bandit Spider, as well as the damage they take from various attacks, assuming each attack hits all 8 eyes. Technically, their health is divided evenly among the eyes, and they can be defeated one-by-one, although this is virtually always slower.
