Explanation

Normally, after releasing the acid in the Water Dragon, Ammy must either swim through it or use Water Lily to safely travel over it on the way back to release the Dragon Orb and fight the Tube Foxes. The acid continuously damages Ammy when swimming in it, in addition to draining her breath meter. Ammy will always take at least 3 Solar Units of damage when swimming from the platform in the room where the acid is released to the hill in center of the Dragon Orb room. If Ammy dies from the acid and is revived by the Astral Pouch, she will respawn back in the former room. Thus, it's necessary to refill Ammy's health to make this swim in NG Any%, which has neither the String of Beads nor Water Lily.

Health can be refilled during the swim either by using Praise to upgrade it, or by consuming a Holy Bone, the latter being faster. In routes which complete the Imperial Palace, a bone is obtained during the starting tutorial for using Issun x1000, which can be used for this. In other routes, a Holy Bones may be purchased during the last Merchant trip before entering the Water Dragon.

Acquiring and using the bone can be entirely skipped, however, by using first-person camera to begin using Waterspout on the Dragon while swimming, and using a Corner Jump to stay out of the acid long enough for the Tube Fox fight to begin, teleporting Ammy to the center of the Dragon Orb room.

Directions

  1. After releasing the acid, tackle jump off the starting platform and double jump through the opening of the tunnel.
  2. Wait for the camera to snap to the tunnel view. As soon as it does, release the analog stick (to cancel the analog direction lock) and air tackle for more distance.
  3. After air tackling, hold left and start mashing jump to swim as soon as possible.
  4. Once Ammy rounds the corner and reaches the straight part towards the Dragon Orb, hold the camera button to change to first-person view. Continue holding forward on the analog stick and mashing jump, as Ammy will continue swimming in first-person mode, unlike when on dry land.
  5. As soon as first-person mode is active, brush and draw a "c"-shaped brush stroke from the acid and across the Orb.
    • Curving the stroke reduces the chance it will be misinterpreted as a Power Slash.
    • You do not need to see Holy Smoke on the Orb, though it is still possible to miss the orb depending on the angle of the camera and shape of the stroke.
  6. Continue swimming forward towards the Orb, staying close to the right side of the tunnel.
  7. After 2-3 swim-jumps from the first Water Spout, enter go into first-person mode again, brush, and Waterspout the Orb again.
    • This should be a little easier than the first WS due to being closer, but the same caveats apply.
    • The orb has a second or two of invulnerability after each WS. If you try to WS the Orb again too soon after the first one, it will have no effect.
  8. Stop mashing jump and swim into either the final corner on the right side before the exit of the tunnel, or the corner right before it. This will activate a Corner Jump and get Ammy out of the acid briefly.
  9. A little while after exiting the acid, brush again and turn the camera a bit to WS the Orb for the 3rd and final time.
    • You can double/wall jump and air tackle bounce to stay out of the acid longer and improve your chance of survival.
    • If you missed one of Waterspouts, or were too early (which can be difficult to tell) you can usually land in the acid and get one more Corner Jump for a final attempt.

If everything is done correctly, the Dragon Orb will be released, Ammy will stop taking damage just before dying, and the Tube Foxes fight will start. You will usually pick up enough Solar Orbs during the fight to refill Ammy's health close to full, minimizing the risk of dying during the escape. If you accidentally die during the trick and are revived by the Astral Pouch, any successful Waterspouts to the Orb will be maintained, making a second attempt easier.
